Sponsor Spotlight - Ascon Skilled Personnel

It’s no secret that good people help to make good rugby teams, and that is a mantra central to the crew at Ascon Skilled Personnel Ltd.

For this week’s Sponsor Spotlight, we look at Ascon’s growing impact in the infrastructure business and the local community.

Ascon Skilled Personnel came on board at Pakuranga two years ago as a sponsor and have continued to expand their support, most recently becoming the naming right’s sponsor of the Under 85kg Black Panthers.

Directors Susan and Aaron Ngeru only moved to the area in 2022 and have wasted no time getting involved.

“Wanting to contribute to our community, I sought guidance on how best to do so and our involvement with the club increased significantly after Ascon became members of Elite Networking,” said Susan.

Through regular networking events, Susan was introduced to long term club member Tu Edwards who is part of the Under 85kg team management.

“Their plans to give back to the community by orchestrating a whanau day that included a garden makeover of Riverhills School was amazing. This deeply resonated with Ascon and the values ingrained in our company culture, which permeate all aspects of who we are. How could we not support this initiative?”

The value of whakawhanaungatanga (process of establishing relationships, relating well to others) is central to the vision Tu shared within the Panthers and directly aligns to the work being done at Ascon.

“Since 2020, we've been shaping Aotearoa's infrastructure with a strong foundation in te ao Māori values, emphasizing close relationships. Our unique approach extends to providing skilled personnel through labour hire services.

“Our mission extends beyond traditional construction by nurturing new talent and investing in skills, mindset, health, and spirit. Our diverse team, from Site Supervisors to Skilled Labourers, is led by individuals dedicated to achieving exceptional results.”

Ascon specialises in large-scale projects, and their approach is that they are not only providing a labour hire crew but a leadership partner that prioritises safety, durability, and functionality. Their services include labour hire, tunnelling, bridges, marine and foundation drilling.

With two sons playing junior rugby, Susan has also joined the Junoir Rugby Committee in 2024.
