Under 11's take out Queenstown Tournament

The tournament was played on great fields at the Queenstown Event Centre and the weather was sunny and crisp spring weather.

First up the Holden's played Wakatipu and the team were slow to react to the 10 min halves, they finished the game strongly but went down 5 to 7.

Next pool game was against Christchurch champions - Christchurch Rugby Club (CRC) - in a very even game - Christchurch went up 5 to nil and the Holden's battled to get a well deserved try late in the second half - the conversion was initially missed but the ref awarded the conversion to be taken again as CRC had charged early and very vocally - the second conversion was successful. The Holden's defended well for the final few minutes to secure a hard fought 7 to 5 win.

As there was only 3 teams in the very competitive pool,  the team watched CFC beat Wakatipu by 10 to 7 in the last pool match - with CFC and the Holden's going through to the semis.

Pakuranga Holden's played Brisbane barbarians (unbeaten from the other pool) in the semi's - The Brisbane team towered over the Holden's as they don't have weight restrictions in Australia - the Holden's scored 2 great team tries and defended exceptionally well but let in a late Brisbane try - final score 12 to 7 - the Brisbane coach commented after the game they have never played a team that tackled and defended so well.

CRC beat their cross town rivals Burnside in the other semi final

The final game was an extremely physical game with many bruising tackles by both teams - The Holden's scored 3 converted tries - with the forwards securing and keeping the ball and the backs combining and scoring 2 long range tries and an exceptional intercept try.

Late in the first half - one of the Holden's was briefly knocked out executing the tackle of the final - the injured boy was exceptionally well looked after by a Christchurch Mum who was a trauma nurse and also the medics at the ground.

When the game restarted - the Holden's were clearly worried about their injured mate but defended well to half time.

In the second half, CFC changed tactics and used there big hard charging forwards to move up field and were held up numerous times on the goal line - they finally managed to score 2 converted tries to bring the score to 21 to 14.

During the final 5 minutes the Holden's tackled everything that was thrown at them and held on to a deserved 21 to 14 win.
